The Transportation Department recently announced new guidelines that would eliminate the ability to operate infotainment systems while driving. If placed in effect, drivers would not be able to enter addresses, check e-mail, input phone numbers, or see more than 30 characters of any incoming messages unless the car is stopped and out of gear.
Limiting the ability to use some of these functions will no be a complete thorn in the side of drivers because of voice command functions. Voice command systems are being encouraged as the best alternative.
